Petrichor (/ˈpɛtrᵻkɔər/) is the earthy scent produced when rain falls on dry soil. The word is constructed from Greek petra, meaning “stone”, and ichor, the fluid that flows in the veins of the gods in Greek mythology.
God, I`m a Petrichorian! I love the smell, the sound and the feel of rain. It`s like I have a reason to stay in bed and do nothing all day. The autumn is here already, the best season to enjoy the gloomy weather and vivid colors of leaves on the ground.
Though it`s hard to achieve “doing nothing” in these busy times I am happy to bring you 10 things to do on a rainy day! The most important thing is they don`t cost you a thing and they have the same relaxing effect as walking right out of the spa. And I tried it all myself!
HERE THEY ARE!
- Number one: Lift your spirit up with some help of the Aromatherapy!
If you own any kind of a diffuser choose an essential oil regarding your current mood. Aromatherapy has a rule in which they say you can never go wrong in choosing the right oil. Intuitively we know what we are missing and by choosing what seems a random oil, it can tell a lot about us. For instance, I love the smell of Jasmin and it really soothes me. Jasmin is known for its antidepressive, antiseptic and sleep aid effect. If you don`t own one simply light up a scented candle of your choosing.
Now when your lovely scented remedy is released you can move on to other great things!
- Number two: A royal bubble bath!
Working, having a family (especially kids) or simply the practicality of modern times makes us forget about this amazing and magical item just waiting to be used. Nowadays we have a huge amount of Bath Bombs to choose from but I still prefer to do it the old school way. And who doesn`t like bubbles??
A tip: If you don`t own a waterproof phone please remember not to take it with you. (Even if you do this should be relaxing time so put it away!)
Trust me, you will thank me afterwards.
- Number three: Deep hair nutrition!
Summer is gone, either you like it or not it left our hair damaged, dried and sad. Now`s the time to make it shine again! Choose your hair mask of liking or just make one yourself and spend some time giving your hair the nutrition it needs. When was the last time you did something like this? Exactly. Here is a recipe for my favorite homemade mask!
- Number four: Private cinema
No one really likes to go outside on a cold autumn rainy day so make a movie marathon at home! Throw in some popcorns, bake some brownies and let the party begin. For those more needy- you can watch the whole season (or two) of your favorite tv show and catch up on everything you`ve missed!
- Number five: Throw a pajama party with your girlfriends!
How long has it been since all of you were together? Throw a pajama party like you`re 16 again and enjoy every minute of it! Grab a bottle of wine, some snacks and you can gossip all night long. This is a great idea for those of you who don`t like spending the day alone. Also, if you don`t want to “party” rainy days are a good day to catch up with your long-lost friends. You have free time to call them up and find out what’s new with them.
- Number six: Clean up!
I know this is the most boring and exhausting idea ever but trust me, you will be happy afterward. Nothing makes you feel better than spending the day in a clean home.
- Number seven: Photo time!
You can finally create new photo albums and organize your photos! If you want to go the extra mile you can arrange your digital photos and albums.
- Number eight: Teach your pet new tricks!
If you work full time you probably don`t spend enough time with your pet. This is a great opportunity to teach them new tricks! Take your time and make them feel special and loved.
- Number nine: Bring out your board games!
Call your family or your friends on a board game night and dust off those boxes! Nothing makes you feel better than a little competitive spirit!
- Number ten: Relax
Last but not the least, cuddle up in your bed, make some tea and just rest. Take naps, read a book, meditate and prepare for an upcoming work week.
What are your favorite things to do on a rainy day?
